Firefighters worked for several hours Tuesday morning to control a large blaze at a Tampa salvage yard.

Hillsborough County Fire Rescue crews responded about 2:50 a.m. after receiving 911 calls about a fire at Affordable Auto Salvage, 6330 Jensen Road, according to a news release.

More than 40 fire rescue vehicles responded to fight the fire that was burning “multiple stacks of automobiles and parts, spanning a large area,” a second news release issued later Tuesday morning said. Crews had to overcome “water supply challenges” to fight the fire, according to the release.

Shortly before 8 a.m., the department announced that the fire was under control and crews were working to put out hot spots, which a news release said will be an “extensive operation” due to the fire’s size and scope.

No injuries have been reported. Officials have not released information about a suspected cause of the fire.

The salvage yard is about half a mile east of Old U.S. Highway 41, near Progress Village.
